The Daily Programme

At Step By Step we offer a three-year preschool programme and a kindergarten. There are six classrooms and children are placed according to age, not ability. Children may enter at any time in the programme. Each year is a continuation and building of skills taught at the previous level. Children engage in structured activities in the day, as well as independent play. Our programme is based on learning through themes, which incorporates all areas of our programme.

Language and Reading Readiness
Through hands on learning we teach:
Letter recognition, beginning phonics, vocabulary building, comprehension skills, and the development of good listening skills. We encourage the development of reading by promoting a love for books.

Introductory Math
• Learning to count
• Number recognition
• One to one correspondence
• Sorting and classifying
• Comparisons (more or less / big and small)
• Introduction to basic addition and subtraction.

Introductory Science
Exploring nature and figuring out how the world works is one of the most challenging yet rewarding tasks of childhood.

Water Exploration Playground: Our water exploration playground allows children to explore the dynamics of water. It relieves tension by encouraging children to release their emotions with pouring, pounding and splashing. Water play fosters learning in all developmental areas. It provides opportunities for children to experiment with math and science concepts and strengthen their physical skills.

Sensory Activities: Builds nerve connections in the brain's pathways, which lead to the child's ability to complete more complex learning tasks. Sensory play supports language development, cognitive growth, fine and gross motor skills, problem solving skills, and social interaction.

Coding: Coding helps improve mathematical and writing skills as well as critical thinking, creativity and other valuable life skills. Studies show that teaching children to code increases their chances of academic success especially when introduced at an early age

Art and Crafts
Children develop life skills through art activities. We encourage creative expression through all media including paint, collage, and clay. Art develops a child's creativity; it requires free thinking, experimentation and analyses - all part of creativity. We have an outdoor art center which fosters the imagination as we create masterpieces while observing nature.
