Philosophy

Children are individuals each walking the road of learning at a different pace.

We believe an important aspect of building children’s self esteem and love for school is to recognize this individuality from the first step. Our philosophy is built strongly on learning through play, in a highly stimulating environment. Children will discover their world through hands on experiences, and their natural curiosity will be encouraged to help promote growth and learning.

As educators we believe that a positive early learning experience will promote a love for learning. Our goal is to create a strong academic foundation for your child for future learning in Prep School. In order to build this foundation, concepts are taught, continually reinforced and built upon. Children are given the opportunity to experience the thrill of learning at their own pace and by their own choice.

At our school you will see:

  • No patterns to follow, only materials with which to create.
  • Ideas and things to talk about, relate to, compare with, match, fit into, experience, build, invent, discover, and enjoy.

At all times the children are being continually challenged by specific learning goals we have set for them. In order to begin to read and perform other academic tasks, children must first gather meaning from the world and develop an awareness of concepts.

Play is an important aspect of childhood development. Through play, children develop self confidence, problem solving skills, fine and gross motor skills, cognitive and perceptual skills, resourcefulness, increase attention span, language, and the ability to get along with those around them. At Step by Step our programme is based on learning through play.
